Hot Tapping Services For Your Utility Project
If you're working with a water main for your utility project, it makes sense that you may want to be able to expand or move a water line while it is still under pressure. Hot tapping services allow you to do exactly that. Whether you are revising existing infrastructure or expanding with new infrastructure, hot tapping services can be a quick and simple way to get the job done during your utility project.
The process of hot tapping is simple. First, the hot tap service sleeve is placed onto the area where you want expand or redp water and sewer lines. The valve is then bolted to the sleeve. Next, the connection is tested under pressure using either a hydrostatic pump or an pneumatic air pump. This ensures that the sleeve and valve are completely water tight for the hot tapping service to occur. Next, the hot tap machine is placed onto the valve. This happens through a water tight packing gland. Then, the valve is opened and the cutter and retention pilot bit are inserted through the valve on to the pipe. After the valve is opened, the hydraulic drill will then drill a hole in the pipe. The retention bit then pulls the "coupon" (cut piece of pipe) out of the way so that it doesn't fall into the pipe. Lastly, the cutter and pilot bit are retracted, the valve is closed, and the hot tap is complete.
